Dmitry Vladimirovich Burkov

Дмитрий Владимирович БурковChairman of the Board of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development. Dmitry Burkov is an Internet industry pioneer in Russia. Graduated from the Leningrad Electrotechnical University; between 1983 and 1994 worked for the St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation with the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS). In the late 80’s co-founded the Demos, which was among Russia’s first Internet providers. Later he held the office of a Board Member at the Relcom, another oldest domestic Internet provider. He occupied managerial positions at the major Russian telecommunications companies: Comstar, Rostelecom and RTComm. Dmitry Burkov directly contributed in 1995 to creating Russia’s first traffic exchange facility: MSK-IX (Moscow Internet Exchange). Dmitry Burkov made a significant contribution to the integration and development process related to the Russian .RU and .РФ TLDs. In particular, he was the first Chairperson of the Council of Coordination Center for TLD RU (RU and РФ domain registry) and remained a Council Member till 2009. He took part in the operations of the Russian Association for Networks and Services.

Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" (26 Aug 2020) - for the outstanding achievements in the creation and development of the Russian segment of the Internet.
