FAITID Staff to Attend the 49th International Public ICANN Meeting

23-27 March 2014 Singapore will host the 49th International Public ICANN Meeting intended for the representatives of companies and organizations with the activities related to the Internet address system and governance issues.

One of the forthcoming meeting key topics is the New gTLD program, which provides a framework for the implementation of a number of new top-level domains, including .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА. The Moscow city TLDs' introduction is coordinated by FAITID.

Its representatives are to take part in the meeting sessions about the New gTLD Program, in particular, the solution prospects of name collisions. At present, for the purpose of precluding any collision risks in the new domains, at the request of the ICANN a number of second-level domain names have been blocked, including the ones coinciding with the common-use words. ICANN has plans underway to authorize their activation in the nearest future: in any new domain it will be possible 120 days after its delegation. Singapore meeting will be used for shaping the implementation mechanism for the proposed 4-month moratorium imposed on the activation of the domains from the blocked lists.

FAITID staff will discuss the names collision issue, as well as other New gTLD Program aspects at the meetings of the groups the Foundation is represented in: GeoTLDs (organized by the geographic top-level domain applicants) and NTAG (the New TLD Applicant Group).
