Summary of the ICANN 52 Meeting
8-12 February 2015 Singapore hosted the ICANN 52 Meeting. Representatives of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development attended the event.
Over 1,200 delegates from more than 100 countries all over the world, including governmental members, representatives of business, civil society, non-governmental organizations, research institutes and other structures, took part in the meeting.
The focal point of the event was Internet governance, in particular, the transition of IANA functions stewardship from the United States government to the global Internet community. Moreover, the meeting addressed the aspects of the New gTLD program development, according to which hundreds of the new top-level domains have been created.
The meeting was followed up by the panel session of the Governmental Advisory Committee of ICANN during which they discussed invalidation of domain names of the Crimean users by US registrars. Attendee Julia Yelanskaya, a representative of the Ministry of Communications of Russia, said that it violates users' rights of equal access to information, as well as defaces Internet governance mechanisms. After the meeting, the corresponding application was sent to all Committee members.
