The Foundation Representatives Took Part in the Meeting of Registrar and Hosting Provider Committee of Russian Association of Electronic Communications

The meeting of the Commission of the Hosting Providers and Domain Name Registrars of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) was held on December 19 2011. Representatives of RAEC, Hosting Community, RU-CENTER, Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development (FAITID), Sochi 2014 Olympic Games Organizational Committee, League of Secure Internet, Kaspersky Laboratories and Center for Information security of Russian Federal Security Service took part in the meeting.

The participants of the meeting considered the Draft Declaration on the support in the sphere of adherence the rules of use and protection of the Olympic and Paralympic symbols by accredited domain registrars and hosting providers. The document was prepared by Sochi 2014 Olympic Games Organizational Committee. In the near future Russian leading domain registrars and hosting providers will sign the Declaration. Other stakeholders are planned to join it.

At the committee’s meeting a great attention was paid to the questions related to the implementation of New gTLD Program in the Russian Federation providing the introduction of new top level domains. To protect the interests of Sochi 2014 Olympic Games Organizational Committee it was offered to delegate one of it’s representatives to the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development that realizes the project of .MOSCOW, .МОСКВА and other geographical, cultural and linguistic Russian top-level domains.

The participants of the meeting discussed issues about filtering and blocking of Russian Internet. It was noted that any kind of filtering by IP would cause the loss of network connectivity. It is important to take into account the development of technology while considering the issues of security, as well as improve the tools to regulate the Internet.

It was proposed to start cooperation with ICANN to cope with the issue of filtering. Russian participants of the Internet market were offered to work more actively in international organizations, developing cross-border rules for the Internet. Work with Russian lawmakers, aimed at the harmonization of the national legislation, is also considered as a very important one.
