The Foundation took part in the Broadened Meeting of the Ministry of Communications

The management of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development took part in an broadened meeting of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, dedicated to the discussion of implementation mechanisms for the Federal Law 139 "On the protection of children from the information harmful to their health and development".

During the discussion the issues concerning specific ways to implement the new law were raised. The participants noted that the current draft of the law was difficult to implement and needed an extensive technical expertise.

 

In addition, the Foundation presented several proposals that were taken into consideration by the Minister:

  • The establishment of a technical council that would give expert recommendations for the bills’ development related to the Internet;
  • Use of Cyrillic .МОСКВА, .MOSCOW, .ДЕТИ domains in order to create educational Internet projects;
  • Necessity of close cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Education through the mediation of non-profit organizations for the development of educational projects.

Matvey Alekseev, executive director of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development said: „The meeting was very productive and we are very pleased with its results. Broadened meetings are useful when we talk about working out industry laws where the opinion of industry representatives is vital. The meeting we had this time has shown that the Ministry is ready to work with industry experts and take their opinion into account“.

It should be recalled that the work continues today on executive orders, regulating the enforcement mechanisms of the Federal Law #139.
