Major Russian Registrars Get Accredited for .МОСКВА and .MOSCOW
The Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure signed an accreditation agreement with the major Russian registrars for two new top-level domains – .МОСКВА and .MOSCOW. All four ICANN-accredited registrars from Russia got the accreditation: RU-CENTER, R01, Reg.ru, and Webnames. The agreements were signed in the Petroff Palace in Moscow.
The agreement was signed with the companies that have previously signed the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement with ICANN. This document allows the registrars to work with the new top-level domains applied for under the New gTLD program.
Veni Markovski, ICANN Vice President, made a speech during the signing ceremony. He noted that all the participants of the New gTLD program have made a tremendous progress, congratulated the representatives of the registrars and the registries, and wished to the new Russian TLDs a successful launch and a steady growth.
Dmitry Burkov, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development: "This is definitely a historic moment. Signing of accreditation agreements for .МОСКВА and .MOSCOW is a starting point for the new TLD market. Registrars are accepting pre-orders for the new domains, FAITID recently signed the Registry Agreement for two TLDs, and on March 4 we witnessed how different pieces came together and the chain between ICANN and the users was completed."
Alongside the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development, two more registries took part in the event: Smart Internet Foundation responsible for .ДЕТИ (".KIDS" in Russian) and Rusnames Limited responsible for .РУС (Cyrillic for ".RUS"). They also signed accreditation agreements with the largest registrars.
