10 June 2014 at 12:00 AM MSK registration starts in the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА TLDs. First it will be available during Sunrise to the owners of trademarks registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse.

Starting from 15 July owners of trademarks valid in Russia will be able to apply for a name, then, from 19th of August – the owners of designations of origin from Moscow and Moscow region, mass media, non-for-profit organisations and the owners of company names from the city.

First-come first-served registrations for anyone will be started 24 September 2014, initially during Landrush organised in a way of a step by step registration fee decrease. Standard registration fee will become effective from 1 December 2014.

“FAITID as the registry for the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА TLDs' starts names’ registration in the extensions in cooperation with major Russian registrars, says Dmitry Burkov, FAITID Board Chairman. “In the coming days first foreign registrars will complete the accreditation process as well. We expect that during Sunrise the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА extensions will be demanded mostly by global brands having their branches in Russia’s capital.”

Except of the brand protection the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА TLDs’ policies ensure priority registration of the names to be used for the Moscow city needs. Before the start of Sunrise a number of names was reserved and then will be allocated to Moscow government and municipal authorities as well as organisations.

First domain names registered for the Moscow City Government have been already delegated – e.g. users could reach the official website of the government by typing government.moscow in their web browsers.
