July 15, 2014, the Limited Registration Period I (for owners of trademarks and service marks valid in the Russian Federation) starts in the .MOSCOW and .MOSCOW top-level domains.

To register a domain name, a trademark owner shall contact one of the registrars accredited for the Moscow's domains and submit the following documents:

1. a document confirming the trademark owner's registration as a legal entity or a sole trader;
2. a trademark certificate or an enacted judicial decision on the exclusive right to a trademark protected in the Russian Federation.

"Domain names in the Moscow extensions will now be available for a wider range of users, because they won't have to pay for including their trademarks in the Trademark Clearinghouse," says Dmitry Burkov, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development (Registry Operator for the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА TLDs). "We hope that this limited registration period in the Russian capital domains will be especially popular among Russian trademark owners associated not only with large businesses but also medium-size and small businesses."

July 10, 2014, the Sunrise registration period for owners of trademarks submitted to the Trademark Clearinghouse was completed in .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА. This period resulted in 154 domain name registrations in .MOSCOW and seven registrations in .МОСКВА. These figures are similar to what other geographical extensions have had demonstrated so far. For example, .BERLIN had 190 domain name registrations during the Sunrise period.

The Sunrise period in .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА was popular mainly among global brands (Gucci, McDonalds, H&M, etc.). The biggest number of domain names (eleven) was registered by Apple Inc.

The Limited Registration Period I (for owners of trademarks and service marks protected in the Russian Federation) will be effective until August 13, 2014.

The Limited Registration Period II (for Moscow's mass media and non-profit organizations, owners of appellations of origin registered in Moscow and Moscow Region, and owners of trade names registered in Moscow) will take place August 19-25, 2014.

Names’ registration in .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА for anyone will open September 24, 2014. It will start with the Landrush period and continue with General Availability beginning December 1, 2014.
