Paris Will Get Its Own Top-Level Domain

Matvey Alexeev, FAITID CEO: "Among the applications for the new top-level domains that were filed within the New gTLD Program, there is a group of TLDs for cities: London, Madrid, Berlin, Tokyo, New York... We've applied for two domains for the Russian capital: .МОСКВА and .MOSCOW, and the domain written in Cyrillic has also successfully passed the initial evaluation phase. This fact as well as .PARIS domain application approval is an evidence that the interest for geographical TLDs is high and new domains are considered as an important tool to work with the city image."

Salenames domain name registrar filed a complaint to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) against the Coordination Center for TLD RU. The company contends the Coordination Center does not have authorities to be responsible for the .RU and .РФ TLDs. Matvey Alexeev, FAITID CEO: "The Coordination Center was established in its time as a common organisation, with the efforts of all market players for that moment. The decision was common, the rules were worked out together as well... The fact that Salenames now files an application against the Coordination Center to FAS says only about one thing: that the self-regulation system in our industry nevertheless still suggests some concerns."
