Comment of Dmitry Burkov, FAITID Board Chairman: "The only way to cut off the country from the Internet is just to switch it off on ourselves. However the consequences of that are even more interesting because it is impossible to disconnect from the Internet. It leads to the collapse of the network within the country. It does not exist without an external network."

Applications were submitted to ICANN – Internet corporation that coordinates the allocation of domain names in the Internet. For applications’ evaluation FAITID paid to ICANN two contributions of $185 000 – this is a requirement for implementation of new domains.

In the Department of Information Technology of Moscow, the relevant body of Moscow Government that supports .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА implementation, the domains are considered as a useful tool to improve of the awareness of the city on the Internet.

Websites will be created for each piece of the city infrastructure - from streets to subway stations. Alexander Panov, President of FAITID, informed The Izvestia some second-level domain names will be reserved by for Moscow Government to use them for social projects. In particular, domains like .УЛИЦА.МОСКВА (Cyrillic, can be translated into English as .STREET.MOSCOW), .МУЗЕЙ.МОСКВА (Cyrillic, can be translated into English as .MUSEUM.MOSCOW), .ШКОЛА.МОСКВА (Cyrillic, can be translated in English as .SCHOOL.MOSCOW) and .АВТОБУС.МОСКВА (Cyrillic, can be translated in English as .BUS.MOSCOW). Dmitry Burkov, FAITID Board Member, told The Izvestia that application for .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА top-level domains is completely ready. To 12 April last changes will be made to the application.
